STGO Escorts examples of compliance...
It is the responsibility of the Haulier to ensure that any AIL movement complies with the various legal and safety requirements to navigate the proposed route. Here @ STGO Escorts it is our aim to ensure that this is completed with the minimum of inconvenience to other road users.
When notifying the movement of an abnormal load the police may ask for a self-certificate or other evidence to show that the vehicles and personnel to be used comply with the Highways Agency Code of Practice (Self-Escorting of Abnormal Loads and Abnormal Vehicles)
We are able to provide this information when required.
Examples of Non-Compliance...
Non-Compliance with a request to escort an abnormal load
"It is strongly advised to have an escort if requested [by Police]. If an accident occurred and it was found that by complying with a request for an escort, the accident could have been prevented, a haulier could be found liable for negligence."
Highways Agency (Oct 2006)
Non-Compliance with the Code of Practice
"The Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 have been amended since the CoP to allow escort vehicles that are clearly identifiable by their livery and markings as abnormal load escort vehicles to use amber warning beacons in excess of 25mph while escorting abnormal loads"
